Productivity myths
Debunked
Productivity is inherently toxic
Productivity doesn’t have to be about ‘hacking’ or ‘optimising’ your life. It can be about designing a working life that is sustainable, intentional and enjoyable and that helps you to create amazing things.
Longer hours = better work
Categorically untrue. In fact, longer hours can be catastrophic for the quality of our work. (Don’t argue with us, argue with Stanford University).
Taking time out of the working day is lazy
Breaks. Are. Fundamental. We’re not machines – our brains need frequent time and space to rest, so we can tackle the big problems and come up with creative solutions.

Hi 👋 I’m Caitlin
Between going blind during my first term at Cambridge University and a couple of really awful burnouts, I’ve spent the last 11 years obsessing over how we can do remarkable things without sacrificing ourselves at the altar of work.
As a business owner and team leader, my obsession with productivity has only deepened – but it’s also shifted.
The working world is more relentless than ever, and more and more I’ve been focusing on what I’m calling ‘anti-toxic productivity’. It’s for people who want to create great work, feel great while doing it and have time and energy for the things they love – and this looks different for everyone.
It’s time to resist the toxic narratives we’ve been told about productivity. We spend over 90,000 hours of our lives working: I believe we owe it to our teams to support them to do their best, and I believe we owe it to ourselves to do what we can to make those hours the best they can possibly be.
